woes

i'm not writing my grad school essay.
i'm also not figuring out my 403b issues.
and lastly, i'm not dealing with my missing check for the 20th day in a row.

hmm...what have I done for the past 20 days? Worked. Saw Dar! Seriously drunk Woo Girls in the back attempted to ruin the show. Finished class and read a few fun books. All in all, I am a boring person.

I've taken to photographing fruit and my herb garden:

Dear Blog,
Today is a sad day. Rain rain don't bother going away because you match my mood.
Andrea and Chris are leaving now, and my grocery shopping trip left me alone with my tears. Good job Kelly. I was okay until I was in line and realized I forgot soy sauce. Double whammy.

So since then, not too bad. Holding it together and keeping it positive.

On another note, if anyone can decipher this sign, it would be much appreciated. Foodmaster is tricky:

school invites procrastination

I have finally (?) realized that it's not ME that is a procrastinator--it's SCHOOL. If there is one thing I will keep from doing until the very last moment, it is school related. Now, I'm really not a good procrastinator...really, i probably fail at procrastinating compared to someone else. However 99.999% of my procrastination efforts can be tied back to homework, school reading, or school planning. I mean, what do you think I'm avoiding right now? I'll give you one guess.
On the other hand, it feels good to accomplish something each day (or each week). I wouldn't want to stop taking classes because of the work-it's the work that eventually creates the sense of accomplishment and keeps me going. Today was on of those days where I was not looking forward to reading and writing for class. Now that I'm in the midst of it, it really is exciting. Though not super exciting or I would be here right now. On that note, maybe I should get back to work.

My Own Oscars

 

How disappointing were the Oscars this year? Even Oprah's cameo couldn't breathe life into the show. I still had fun competing watching with friends. I now owe a friend a golden Oscar tinfoil trophy to be displayed on a nonexistent mantelpiece.

 In other news and updates since the posts of yore:

1. The Wailin' Jennys are coming to the theater (above).Tickets yea or nay?

2. Community Gardens--two year waiting list!! This just means we need more gardens. Will talk to garden dude at the next farmer's market.

3. Swimming-good and bad. Good workouts, bad dry skin. Apart of dipping myself directly into body lotion I don't know how to rectify this situation.  For the time being, I am taking a swimming hiatus.  Running and other exercisings are still on the table.

happy almost christmas! i think my shopping is done, and now on to other priorities.

a christmas miracle showed up on our front porch in the form of a million pounds of omaha steaks! thank you aunt and uncle of last tenant!!

...and don't worry, we called omaha...they are contacting aunt and uncle and reshipping a new box. this box is for us to keep!!

seasons of projects

Ideas for the winter, spring, summer, some already thwarted:

Winter
-take the GRE (done and done!!!)
-swim at the gym (need to look into free swim times)
-bring back a swimsuit from home at christmas (I already wrote myself a note)

Spring
-taking a class Jan through May (not so much free time in the Spring)
-create wall art out of old postcards (that is as far as I've gotten on that one)

 Summer
-community garden (waitlisted already)
-drink a barrel full of whiskey and use the barrel as my garden (need ginger ale and Andrea's help)
-bee keeping (no apiary or bee community in Somerville, but will keep looking)
-take a photography class (digital or film?)

Chairs in the Yard

Harvard has these funky chairs of various colors and back settings.  They're a fun time, and on a not-so-cool fall afternoon prompted a lot of people to hang out in the yard.  Even a banjo player...

Bikety Bike!

This weeks bike class is all about bike culture and bike identity. It's funny to think about how each cultural group identifies itself, and how individuals identify with a specific group (or multiple groups).

I just read an article social identity--products as social identifiers, and the salience of a represented identity indicated by frequency (meaning-if you're a full-time student, and work 10 hours a week, you would call yourself a student, not a worker).

Although it was fun to read this in a scientific-y format, some work of sociology and psychology is silly to me because they take concepts that are seemingly common knowledge and make them into theories. I'm just saying, obviously people who identify themselves with a certain group will buy into products related to that group, and so on.

Wait Wait PLEASE TELL ME

Of all the things to miss the WHEEL taping for, I guess Wait Wait is a good choice...and I'll be in Chicago so that is also a double plus plus! However my attempts to figure out who will be the guest/on the panel this week have been thwarted. I guess it's TBD till you get there.
This also leads me to believe that Wait Wait probably has no idea who will guest star/ be on the panel until a few minutes before the show when some funny/half famous people happen to show up at the Chase Auditorium. An NPR clusterfuck, and that is fine by me, really.

But I am still a little bitter that I'll be missing Pat and Vanna, and yelling garishly at any contestants that buy vowels.
